our [story]: ej smith was a name i often heard floating around my college campus, but i didn't have the pleasure of meeting this legend until a university ministries event during my senior year. a few months later i found out that ej would be studying abroad in england during the same time i would be, so naturally i asked this all-but-stranger to join me for two weeks of backpacking across europe! i must say, it was one of the best chances i've ever taken.

your [shade]: Dandelion Yellow. It’s just bright enough to inspire, but calm enough to stay at peace.
your [inspiration]: Great soundtracks, old books with fading ink, calms before storms, large crowds, and electricity.
your [mantra]: “To be silent keeps us pilgrims.” – Henri Nouwen

your [escape]: High places where sound is far away, but still present.

your [origins]: I’m from Anniston, Alabama. I love Anniston because it’s the only town I’ve ever been to that’s made me love being stopped by trains. It’s a misunderstood, little brother of a town. Overlooked, but so appreciated by those who reside there.
your [perfection]: Having hope amidst all doubt.
your [challenge]: Having hope amidst all doubt.

ej, you are a river. you're constantly moving and sparkling and bubbling and refreshing those who venture into your waters. i adore your massive curiosity, unending optimism, and deep belief that this world is magical and good. time spent with you will never be anything less than spectacular because you embody the most delightful juxtaposition of sagacious wisdom and childlike wonder. many people claim to be adventurers, but you are one of the few who can claim it honestly. your spirit is free, which gives others permission to be free as well. thank you for being my little buddy and rubbing some of your shine off on me. keep rolling and roaring as rivers do, my wonderful girl.
