*also answers to elizabeth justice smith

our [story]: ej smith was a name i often heard floating around my college campus, but i didn't have the pleasure of meeting  this legend until a university ministries event during my senior year. a few months later i found out that ej would be studying abroad in england during the same time i would be, so naturally i asked this all-but-stranger to join me for two weeks of backpacking across europe! i must say, it was one of the best chances i've ever taken.

your [soundtrack]:“Step Out” by Jose Gonzales, “Living Is Simple” by Switchfoot, “Holding On To You” by Twenty One Pilots, “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove,“Wanted Man” by Needtobreathe, “Kites” by Geographer, “Bread and Wine” by Josh Garrels, “Another Story” by the Head and the Heart, “Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters And Men, “Broken Heart” by Dr. Dog

your [script]: The Prestige, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Finding Neverland, Harry Potter series, The Princess Bride, The Aristocats, Elizabethtown, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

your [library]:“The Way of the Heart” by Henri Nouwen, “A Grief Observed” by C.S. Lewis, “An Altar in the World” by BBT, “The Opposite of Loneliness” by Marina Keegan,  “The Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss, “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley

your [shade]: Dandelion Yellow. It’s just bright enough to inspire, but calm enough to stay at peace.

your [inspiration]: Great soundtracks, old books with fading ink, calms before storms, large crowds, and electricity.

your [mantra]: “To be silent keeps us pilgrims.” – Henri Nouwen

you [love]: Eye glances that are filled with words, carbohydrates (unfortunately), percussion, and autumn.

you [hate]: Great expectations (the book and the pressure), isolation, gravel, and over-inflated dodgeballs.

your [purpose]: To be so compelled by the power of Christ that I can take one more step forward than I ever hoped to take.

you [believe]: The power of the imagination.

your [influence]: Jon Foreman, easily. He indirectly challenged me to look at the whole world, not just my world, from the age of ten to today (and tomorrow).

you [admire]: Authenticity. It’s a compliment and a beautiful story all in one.

your [escape]: High places where sound is far away, but still present.

your [fondest memory]: Having a light dinner on a beach in Florida with my four immediate family members, four other cousins, two aunts and two uncles. The sunset over the water while we embraced being a family in a great, big world.

your [origins]: I’m from Anniston, Alabama. I love Anniston because it’s the only town I’ve ever been to that’s made me love being stopped by trains. It’s a misunderstood, little brother of a town. Overlooked, but so appreciated by those who reside there.

your [perfection]: Having hope amidst all doubt.

your [challenge]: Having hope amidst all doubt.

you'd [meet] Shel Silverstein. If he were alive, I’d take him to coffee, have a doodling contest, and only speak in silly poetry.

your [shining] moment: Getting to share my God story at Samford and having my story (that I thought was a tragedy) be seen as a feat by my listeners.

your [childhood ambition]: To be an astronomer and “own” all of the stars. I was mislead about the job description.

your [aspiration]: An adventurer who only stops moving when the moment is being worth caught up in.

your [wildest] dream: To collect personal stories from 5,000 people and publish them for everyone else.

your [biopic star]: Jennifer Lawrence. She’s my spirit animal.

your [dream destination]: New Zealand. Typical, but so true.

your [pet peeve]: Tangled hair, moist surfaces, and lip-smacking.

your [vice]:  Wheat Thins, procrastination, and non-fiction reading.

your [site]: http://legendaryskipps.wordpress.com. I’m a once-a-month poster at best, but hoping to become more diligent in writing.

your [last purchase]: “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” at the Publix Redbox to watch with my parents. Dad loved it, Mom was indifferent.

your [surprise]: I love puzzles more than food.

your [location]: Going into what could quite possibly be my last undergrad summer before I become a senior at Samford. This summer is filled with writing, reading, traveling, and singing.

you [like]: My never-ending curiosity.

you [are]: Hopeful.

ej, you are a river. you're constantly moving and sparkling and bubbling and refreshing those who venture into your waters. i adore your massive curiosity, unending optimism, and deep belief  that this world is magical and good. time spent with you will never be anything less than spectacular because you embody the most delightful juxtaposition of sagacious wisdom and childlike wonder. many people claim to be adventurers, but you are one of the few who can claim it honestly. your spirit is free, which gives others permission to be free as well. thank you for being my little buddy and rubbing some of your shine off on me. keep rolling and roaring as rivers do, my wonderful girl.

you are [delightful].
